Oprah Video: Hug Around the Neck

Okay, so I'm mildly obsessed with Oprah. I can't help it. She's so cool. I love the inspirational stories of women entrepreneurs. I love the idea behind her school in South Africa.  I love the fashion, beauty, and room make overs. I love how she surprises people and gives them their biggest wish. I love her interviews with people like Zainab Salbi  from Women for Women International. I highly recommend you check out their site and sponsor a woman (I have for the past 6 yrs!).

So, I made this little video to tell Oprah how's she's changed my life. Here it is.

the busy blues

Every once in a while, sneaky little negative thoughts creep in making me feel a little blue. I've noticed that I've recently been complaining of being very busy, as I am working on lots of stuff right now. But, then I read an article on Lady Gaga that gave me a little perspective (albeit from someone who happens to be possibly the most famous person in the world right now.... and can someone please tell me why she is often covered in fake blood?)

ANYWAY, here is a Lady who while on tour around the world for 3 years, managed to ALSO produce a new album and partake in Lord knows what else along the way, including fashion shoots for Vogue, co-hosting events with Oprah Winfrey and the like...  and do you know what she said about feeling tired?

Lady Gaga

I love that. It reminded me that when you are doing stuff you love, you can't really stop. There is a feeling in your soul that you must do it, in fact, you don't really have a choice. You just feel you have to do it. Not because you HAVE to, but because you really want to.

Another bit of inspiration, coming from Holly Becker's podcast (from my BYW class)  says not to focus on the negative,  and that  “you have to push through the struggle” and “keep doing what you love”.  I believe this to be true. So, if I'm busy doing a bunch of things I love to do, than I shall no longer complain, but say THANK YOU. Thank you for all the great opportunities coming my way. Thank you for the creative ideas that keep me up at night. Thank you for new friends. Thank you for inspiring classes. Thank you for dreams. Just thank you.

I'll leave you with a song from my daughter's preschool class today, it goes, "Here comes the sun, Little Darling, Here comes the Sun, and I say, IT'S ALRIGHT".

Domino: The Book of Decorating

Bonjour! As part of my goal in developing The Desha Show and this blog, I am currently treating myself to a wonderful class called Blogging Your Way, taught by Holly Becker, of my favorite blog: decor8.

This is a 4 week class where I'm learning techy stuff, like how to take pictures for my blog (still working on this!) and super fun projects like flower arranging, mood boards, styling photos etc.

I'm still working on my mood board, and I can't wait to share that, but today I've been inspired to take Holly's suggestion and write about a book that I LOVE.

It sits on my little coffee table, and my favorite thing to do is look at it while having tea and cookies. The cover itself, is worth the price of the book on Amazon. You can also find it at Anthroplogie, where I first discovered it.
Domino: The Book of Decorating is fashioned from one of my favorite magazines, Domino Magazine, which is no longer around. That's part of the reason the book is such a jewel.

Besides inspiring photos of beautifully designed interiors, this book also gives you tips on decorating your own space, such as an entryway, bathroom, bedroom, etc.

This is the entryway of Rita Konig's home, former contributing editor of Domino Magazine. Notice how the wallpaper in this entryway brings drama and beauty to a space that you might otherwise not notice. I think it's beautiful.
Here's a little glimpse into the Living Room of Deborah Needleman, who was the chief editor of Domingo Magazine.  In the book, she gives us the design story and how she brought her concepts into an elegant and welcoming space.
There are also great tips on how to arrange a mantel and how to hang art.
This is the office of Mary McDonald, an Interior Designer. My office is in dire need of some attention. You'd be horrified if I showed you a picture of it now, so good thing we have pretty offices like this one to be inspired by!

I love this elegant, girly bathroom. My grandmother had a pink bathroom about this shade, and I spent many hours in there going through her make-up and rose scented perfumes.

Hope you've enjoyed this little tour of my favorite design book. I'll be sure and do the same for Holly Becker's book coming out in April. It will go right next to this one, alongside my favorite chair, waiting for me to enjoy with tea and treats.

a glimpse of the Desha Show Intro!

Many of you have asked when the first episode of The Desha Show will be aired, and I'm so excited to say we are almost there! Since my last post, I've hired a fabulous editor, Robin MacArthur of one of my favorite band's Red Heart the Ticker and a I have a great intern from Marlboro College, Melinda "Pinecone" Tenenzapf . She is filming the interviews and editing the intro and I have to say, she is cute as a button.

Here you will see her first draft of the show intro, an 8 second glimpse of what the intro will look like~
I'm very excited!
